To express in public an opinion or to make any suggestion whatsoever with regard to the etiology, the pathology, or the treatment of puerperal sepsis, seems at the present day to provoke such a torrent of criticism that it is practically courting disaster to mention the subject at all. It is, therefore, with considerable diffidence that I approach the subject to-night. It is, however, with only two rather limited aspects of the question that I intend to deal.
